Message from the Department Chair
Welcome to the official page of the Department of Optometry at the College of Applied Medical Sciences, King Saud University. Since the inception of the Department of Optometry, which is considered a leader in its field, we have been committed to providing a comprehensive educational environment focused on academic and research excellence. We aim to graduate qualified specialists capable of delivering primary eye care, engaging in scientific research, and serving the community following local and international standards. The department continues to make ongoing efforts to enhance the educational process and train students in the latest technologies in the field of optometry, ensuring the highest level of education and research. These efforts contribute to advancing the optometry sector and improving the quality of eye care services, aligning with the goals of Vision 2030.
We take pride in the full accreditation of the “Bachelor of Optometry Doctor” program by the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Evaluation, which reflects the department’s commitment to academic and research excellence, as well as the efforts of faculty members, and the fruitful collaboration with our students and alumni. Additionally, we are proud of offering unique educational programs, such as the “Master of Science in Optometry” program, the first of its kind in the region, and the “Intermediate Diploma in Optical Technology” program, which addresses the labor market’s need to nationalize the optometry sector and enhance the quality of services provided. This is achieved in line with Vision 2030 through the graduation of qualified Saudi optical technicians, trained both academically and practically, to complement the vision care team in Saudi Arabia (ophthalmologists, optometrists, and optical technicians).
Furthermore, the department places great emphasis on scientific research, encouraging both students and faculty members to engage in innovative research that advances the field of optometry. The Department of Optometry also includes specialized clinics that offer advanced visual services under the supervision of distinguished faculty members, covering various specialties such as binocular vision, orthoptics, cornea and contact lenses, low vision rehabilitation, color vision, adults and pediatric optometry.
In conclusion, the department is committed to the continuous development of education and training, scientific research, and community service, all of which aim to enhance the quality of services provided in the optometry sector in alignment with Vision 2030.
