Academic Supervision | Optometry Department

Dear student,

 Welcome to the Optometry Department at the College of Applied Medical Sciences. We wish you a successful and excellent university life. Here are some important points to remember for a better academic journey.

General Guidelines:

·      Update your contact information through the electronic portal in case of any changes.

·      Activate and regularly check your university email. Use it as an official means of communication with faculty members and your academic advisor. You are responsible for staying informed about important announcements and academic guidance.

·      In case of any academic complaint regarding a course or instructor:

o   Approach the course instructor and discuss the issue.

o   If the problem persists, contact the academic advisor and complete the Academic Guidance Form.

 

Responsibilities:

·      Maintain cleanliness in classrooms and laboratories.

·      Turn off devices after use.

·      Adhere to the dress code in the department's laboratories and clinics. Refer to the Student Guide for Optometry Clinics and Laboratories.

 

Know Your Academic Advisor

·      Know your academic advisor. Find your advisor's information on the Online Academic System portal and communicate via email. If you encounter issues, contact the department at OPTO@KSU.EDU.SA

 

Registration and Schedule:

·      Check the academic schedule on the academic portal at the beginning of each registration period. Schedules for students who do not check within the first week will be deleted.

·      Adhere to the registered courses. If you need to add or drop courses, consult your academic advisor during the first academic week.

·      To make changes to your schedule:

·      Use the electronic portal during the specified periods based on your university ID.

·      If unable to make changes through the portal, submit an electronic schedule change request through the "Samer" system during the specified periods.

·      If you are still unable to submit a request, contact your academic advisor or the department registrar.

 

Attendance and Absence:

·      Attend lectures from the first academic day. Absences exceeding 25% of the total course lectures may result in being prohibited from taking the final exam.

 

Exams:

·      Inform your academic advisor of any exam schedule conflicts within one week of the schedule announcement.

·      Notify the course instructor and academic advisor in case of missing a midterm or final exam within 3 to 4 working days. Provide a valid excuse for consideration by a committee comprising the department chair, course instructor, academic advisor, and the student.

 

Cheating:

·      Cheating consequences follow university regulations. Refer to the Student Discipline Regulations at King Saud University.


 

 

Academic Excellence and Honors:

·      A reward of 1000 SAR is granted to students with a cumulative GPA of 4.5 for two consecutive semesters within one academic year.

·      First Honor is awarded to students with a cumulative GPA of 4.75 and above, and Second Honor is for students with a cumulative GPA from 4.25 to less than 4.75.
