Awareness, Community Engagement, and Outreach Activities

The Respiratory Therapy Program seeks to instill principles of social responsibility among students and program affiliates by supporting and enabling their participation in various awareness and community activities and events. This approach aims to enhance integration between academic performance, clinical excellence, and community service, in alignment with the strategic pillars of King Saud University. The following are examples of global health events in which the program actively participates, given their relevance to the respiratory therapy profession and its fields:

 

 

World Respiratory Care Week

In October of each year, students and affiliates of the Respiratory Therapy Program celebrate World Respiratory Care Week by organizing health awareness campaigns and initiatives to introduce the respiratory therapy profession and highlight the importance of respiratory therapists in patient care.


Lung Cancer Awareness Month

Lung cancer is among the most prevalent cancers worldwide. Each November, awareness activities are conducted to educate the public about its types, treatment options, and preventive measures.


World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Day

Countries around the world observe World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Day in November each year to raise awareness of the risks, causes, and care strategies associated with the disease.


World Asthma Day

On the first Tuesday of May each year, the world observes World Asthma Day. The Global Initiative for Asthma aims to increase awareness of asthma and promote strategies for its control.


World Sleep Day

An annual event held on the third Friday of March each year, aimed at promoting sleep health, increasing awareness of the importance of sleep, and educating patients and the community about sleep disorders and their impact on health and daily social and professional life.
