Chairman message

The Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department welcomes your interest and arrival at its site. The department also welcomes its staff and students, affirming its commitment to continue working with the quality and caliber that began as the first department specialized in medical laboratories in the Kingdom to grant a bachelor's degree, and as the first department to offer a Master of Science degree in several specialized tracks. It also launched the first Doctor of Philosophy program in Clinical Laboratory Sciences in the Kingdom, in five specialized tracks, in addition to its work on launching regular master's programs, executive and joint programs, and training programs, within the framework of training and qualifying specialists scientifically and professionally with high efficiency.

The department includes qualitative specialties such as pathology and blood transfusion, clinical microbiology with its branches, clinical biochemistry, clinical immunology, medical and molecular genetics, histology and cytology, health informatics, quality management, and accreditation of diagnostic laboratories, which reflect the importance of the profession in the field of clinical diagnosis, as 80% of diagnoses depend on laboratory results. These specialties contribute to several fields, including academic, research, professional, administrative, through basic science research, clinical research, biotechnology, and applications of medical devices, and health innovation.

This specialty is also mainly concerned with the targets of Vision 2030, through its main pillars of a vibrant community based on integrated healthcare, extending healthy life, and ensuring the best medical care. This is achieved through an integrative service starting from the national investment for decades in training and qualifying national cadres, providing infrastructure from universities, hospitals, and advanced research centers, and unlimited support for this sector, culminating in the national strategy for biotechnology launched by His Highness the Crown Prince, which intersects scientifically and technically with this important specialty.

In addition to academic specialization, postgraduate studies, and scientific research, the department is concerned with the academic accreditation of its programs, professional training courses for its staff, and scientific and professional consultations, through the department directly and through the Saudi Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, the Laboratory Club, the Chair of Medical and Molecular Genetics Research, and by hosting the Research Center of Excellence in Biotechnology that serves the university as a whole, in a collective role where efforts are concerted and unified in goals, to achieve the highest standards of learning, education, research development, and professional progress, which is accomplished, God willing, then with the unlimited support from the wise leadership, followed by the leadership of the university and the college. May God grant us continued success and prosperity.
