Research Groups
1. Ocular Pathology research group Group Research Team : One our area of research is to investigate the pathology of ocular tissue such cornea, retina and optic nerve in collaborations with ophthalmologist, consultants and surgeon. Over the years we have investigated disorder of diseased cornea such as Gelatinous drop-like corneal dystrophy, Maroteaux-Lamy syndrome type B, Bullous keratopathy, Bowman’s layer corneal dystrophies types I and II and Granular dystrophy. The work has been published in peer-review journals such as Achieve of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology and Vision science, British Journal of Ophthalmology Investigative, Acta Ophthalmol Scand and Cornea. |
2. Rehabilitation & Low Vision research group Group Research Team: Vision is an essential part of everyday life, depended on constantly by people at all ages. Vision affects development, learning, communicating, working, health, and quality of life. Globally, and according to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2002 more than 161 million people were visually impaired, of whom 124 million people had low vision and 37 million were blind. However, refractive error as a cause of visual impairment was not included, which implies that the actual global magnitude of visual impairment is greater. Visual impairment is not distributed uniformly throughout the world. More than 90% of the world's visually impaired live in developing countries, and WHO 2002 estimation for visual impairment is Saudi Arabia to be 227,611, more recent figure is coming out in the next few months in the WHO web site where they expect the figure to be higher as the criteria for visually impaired person differs from one country to another. |
3. Contact lens & Anterior Eye research group Group Research Team: This group activity includes research relating to corneal response to contact lenses, contact lens solutions, and the impact of the environment on cornea and the crystalline lens. Through research conducted by members in this group, it was discovered that long-term exposure to optical radiation (UV and infrared) resulted to significant subtle degeneration of the cornea in a group of exposed workers due to inappropriate use of their protective eyewear. Our current projects involve. |
4.Clinical Investigation research group Group Research Team: This group aims to improve the detection and management of oculovisual disorders as well as ocular disease. The focus of the research is on the validation of new clinical techniques and the modification of existing techniques to facilitate the detection and management of common oculovisual disorders and diseases. |
5. Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Research Group Group Research Team: Dr. Ali Al-Ghamdi Issued the approval for the establishment of Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Research Group and supervised by Dr. Ahmed Al-Ghadir faculty member of Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. |
